The caricatures, portraits, paintings and fairy-tale characters of the 95-year-old artist, the legendary illustrator of the Ludas Matyi weekly, the creator of István Csukás' popular fairy-tale characters, and the creator of Pom Pom and Artúr Gombóc, who is still active today, form the subject of the exhibition.
The exhibition material, consisting of Ferenc Sajdik's pastel portraits, artistic caricatures made with mixed media, Vác panel paintings, and cheerful paintings, was purchased by the city from a private collector in Vác in January 2020. The exhibition, housed in the Pannónia House building, features nearly 140 works, arranged thematically in four rooms.
At the entrance, in the L-shaped room, Ferenc Sajdik's unique portraits, complete with attributes (characterizing objects), are displayed. Since the 1980s, Sajdik has been creating framed, pastel caricatures of historical figures, artists, actors, and writers who are important to him. Each of his portraits is a curiosity: the artist attaches various applications, clay sculptures, or even everyday objects to the frames, which symbolize the life work of the person depicted.
The main hall on the ground floor is lined with Sajdik's characteristic caricatures. His inimitable style, drawn with light lines and uniquely colored animal figures and imagined life situations bring a smile to the faces of visitors.
A separate room features his works related to Vác: visitors can learn about the city's characteristic streets, squares, as well as important historical events and anecdotes, depicted with Ferenc Sajdik's kind humor and artistic tools.
The children's room welcomes guests with the Civakodó Cipőiyrek, Madárvédő Golyókapkodó, Ho-Ho-Ho Horgász, Pom Pom and Artúr Gombóc. István Csukás's fairy tale heroes were created by Ferenc Sajdik, and their joint work resulted in cartoon series that are still very popular today. You can also watch a few episodes while visiting the museum, sitting on comfortable poufs in the colorful room.
